I've never entered a photography competition before. Is this for me?
Yes, that's exactly who the workshop is for! By the end of the workshop you'll know exactly what the judges look for, how to shoot it, and how to edit it. Judging is blind, the only thing they get to see is your shot.
Why is there a workshop and a competition, I don't understand?
The workshop is the free training: three evenings that teach you how to take and edit an aviation photo good enough to win something. The competition is where you use it. Entries open the morning after the last evening, your seat includes a free entry, and there's £2,000 of kit for the winner. Sign up once and you get both.
What level is the workshop pitched at?
Every level. Whether you started shooting this summer or you've been shooting at the fence for twenty years, our workshops are expertly designed to be easy for beginners to follow, with additional tips for the experienced.
Is it really free?
Yes. All three evenings, the recordings for a week afterwards, and one entry to the competition. No card, no catch, no purchase necessary.
Where and when is the workshop?
Live online, on Zoom on Tuesday 6, Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October at 7pm UK time, about 90 mins each day. You'll get the Zoom link when you register and again on the day.
I can't make one of the evenings. Should I still register?
Yes. Every evening is recorded and the recordings are free to everyone who registers until Sunday 18 October.
What camera do I need?
Any camera. Award winning photos are so much more than the gear.
Do I have to enter the competition?
No. Register for the workshop and decide later if you want to enter the competition. Your free entry is there if you want it!
When does the competition open, and what can I enter?
Entries open on Monday 12 October, the Monday after the workshop, and close on Saturday 31 October. The competition brief will be announced nearer the time. Full rules are on the terms page.
What does the winner get?
A UK winner picks any lens or body up to £2,000 from Clifton Cameras. A winner in the EU or the US takes the cash alternative instead, €2,000 or $2,000, paid by PayPal within 14 days of the announcement. One prize winner, plus a named top twenty when the results are announced on Monday 9 November.
Who owns my photo rights?
You do. We get a credited licence to show it in the results and the gallery, and nothing else. Your shot, your copyright. We're photographers too and we get it.
